Diapers in Detention

2016-08-01 Diaper ImagePlease help us raise awareness about the continuing scandal of family detention!

The Interfaith Immigration Coalition under the leadership of the Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLINIC) is planning a week of action to draw attention to U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s policy of incarcerating mothers and children.

The center piece of the campaign is our “Diapers in Detention” baby showers which we plan to hold at ICE offices across the country.  We’ve developed a “Diapers in Detention” tool kit (also attached) which provides all the details.

In addition to inviting you to join a “Diapers in Detention Baby Shower” near you, we’d also like to ask you to:

  • Send a baby card to Sarah R. Saldaña, Director, U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement
  • Send an op-ed or letter-to-the-editor to your local paper.
  • Send an email to your local ICE office
  • Advocate on social media #diapersindetention

You’ll find all of the details and more in the attached “Diapers in Detention” kit.

September 1-October 4: World Day of Prayer for CreationSeasons of Creation

In 1989, Ecumenical Patriarch Dimitrios I proclaimed September 1 as a day of prayer for creation (Creation Day) which was embraced by the other major Christian European churches in 2001 and by Pope Francis for the Roman Catholic Church in 2015. Many Christian churches have started celebrating the “Season of Creation” (also known as Creation Time) between that date and October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Ecology.

Additionally, the Global Catholic Climate Movement has developed a Season of Creation website in partnership with other ecumenical organizations. This site has many great resources for all Christian faiths to use and adapt for prayer services and other events to promote the Season of Creation.
We invite our members to plan a service or prayer vigil during the month.
